Homage to the Bandoneon
Tango Industrial- Chemnitz
Over 3 days in mid- May 2014 the city of Chemnitz became the site of an extraordinary encounter— tango dancers from cities throughout Europe gathered for the first time to specially honor the birthplace of the of the bandoneon- without which the unique sound of Argentine tango would not exist.
Tango Alchemie in cooperation with the Saxon Mozart Society, initiated and produced a three-day pilgrimage for tango dancers from around Europe to visit the birthplace of the bandoneon, the irreplaceable instrument that has given Argentine tango its unique sound. The event included a visit to Carlsfeld in the Erzeberge region of Saxony where the original instruments were produced.
The gala event was held in cooperation with the Freie Press of Saxony and featured the Orquesta Solo tango and live dance performances for an audience of 400 people. Tango Alchemie produced this event with its partners Milonga Popular Berlin and ESSA milonga Nuremberg and others.
See the program, thank you from dancers, and gala presentation on the history of the bandoneon below. We also made a special documentary film about this event.
